To get to know the heart of Greece, you need to visit some of its hundreds of islands. A stage of mythological tragedies and successive invasions, the villages now face an army of tourists, attracted by idyllic scenery and the ubiquitous beauty of the sea. As in the past, its inhabitants are able to preserve the Greek essence in every detail. Mykonos and Santorini are the most well-known examples of this resistance: with narrow streets and white houses, they have become the stars of the Aegean. By Monica Serino.
